Day 16: The Four Agreements – Walking for Alabama
Today, on Day 16 of the #IWillListen Ruck Challenge, I walked three miles for Alabama’s first responders, where we lose an average of three responders to suicide each year. Tonight’s message comes from The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz—a set of principles that guide us toward a life of integrity, connection, and resilience:
Be Impeccable with Your Word
Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Words carry immense power, and using them mindfully can build trust, inspire others, and strengthen relationships.Don’t Take Anything Personally
What others say or do is often a reflection of their reality, not yours. Letting go of personalizing others’ actions protects your peace and allows you to focus on what you can control.Don’t Make Assumptions
Clear communication is key. Rather than assuming, ask questions and seek clarity. This practice fosters understanding and prevents unnecessary conflict.Always Do Your Best
Your best will vary from day to day, and that’s okay. Whether you’re thriving or enduring, giving your best effort in the moment ensures you move forward with no regrets.
These agreements align closely with the Comprehensive Fitness philosophy—building resilience across all domains of life. They remind us to lead with authenticity, navigate relationships with empathy, and give ourselves grace as we strive for growth.
As I walked today, I reflected on these principles and how they encourage us to live purposefully and connect meaningfully. I hope they resonate with you too. If you’d like to support this campaign, please consider making a donation to First Help.
Stay safe, and I will listen.
