#IWillListen (2024) – 1 Mile for Oregon

Day 11: Everyone Needs a Fitness Goal – Walking for Oregon

On Day 11 of the #IWillListen Ruck Challenge, I walked one mile for Oregon’s first responders, where we lose an average of one responder to suicide each year. Tonight, my message is this:

Everyone needs a fitness goal.

Fitness goals aren’t just about physical activity—they’re about aligning your priorities with what you need most in a given season of life. Goals shift over time, and that’s okay. Right now, my goal isn’t just about endurance; it’s about self-care during this hard sprint. My schedule is packed, and I’ve been operating at full capacity for weeks. This Ruck is my crucible, reminding me I can endure and adapt. But enduring doesn’t mean neglecting myself, so I’ve set intentional goals to make it through this challenge sustainably.

Here are the steps I’m taking to meet my current fitness goal of self-care during this sprint:

  1. Set Comprehensive Fitness Goals – My focus has shifted from high-intensity workouts to maintaining movement and balance. I still prioritize resistance training but adapt based on my Ruck distances.

  2. Track the Calendar – I manage my time closely to ensure I can balance work, clients, and personal commitments.

  3. Prioritize Sleep – Sleep is key to recovery and resilience. I aim for at least 7 hours a night, even when the days are packed.

  4. Monitor Stress – Self-awareness helps me manage how stress affects my mood and relationships.

  5. Be Intentional About Nutrition – I’m making thoughtful food choices to fuel my body and mind.

  6. Stay Mindful – I rely on tools like Insight Timer for mindfulness practice, even during busy weeks.

Goals evolve, and that’s the beauty of them. What’s your current fitness goal? Share it with me—I’d love to hear how your priorities are shaping your journey.

Stay safe, and I will listen.
