Today, on Day 2 of the #IWillListen 2024 Ruck Challenge, I walked one mile in honor of Rhode Island, where we lose an average of one first responder per year to suicide. During the walk, I shared a message inspired by a quote I recently saw on Insight Timer: “To dare is to lose one’s footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose one’s self.” This reminder felt especially relevant as I step forward with my work on comprehensive.fitness, which I’ve often hesitated to share more widely.
This quote resonated with me because, like many, I’ve been reluctant to unveil my work on Comprehensive Fitness Coaching, wondering if it’s ready or refined enough. But sometimes, the true test isn’t perfection; it’s having the courage to share what you’re passionate about—even if it feels like taking a leap without a net. Today, I’m embracing that leap, daring to bring my vision forward.
Earlier this year, I stepped down from my role on the board of First H.E.L.P., a nonprofit dedicated to first responder mental health, to take on a new role as Deputy Executive Director at ILEETA. While my focus has shifted, my passion for wellness and resilience remains. I believe these elements are crucial for everyone, especially trainers. A foundation in comprehensive fitness—physical, mental, and emotional wellness—guides how we live, lead, and fulfill our commitments.
Sharing this journey and vision feels daunting, but it’s essential. I hope to inspire others to pursue a better self, even if it means stepping out of our comfort zones. Today, I’m reminded that daring to take that step is what keeps us aligned with our purpose.
